interview in english

Christian: Hi Vince, first of all, please introduce yourself in 3 sentences. Not everyone in our community and germany knows your name *shame on them*.

Vince: Welcome to Running With Scissors world of Going Postal, my name is Vince Desi. We first released the original now classic video game POST*L in 1997. Your country Germany is one of many that have chosen to censor us.

Christian: As next please tell me and the community something about the "Postal"-Games. Maybe 3 sentences about the "Content", without using the words "blood", "gore", "scissors", "headshot" and "ego".

Vince: We design the POSTAL-Games as satire of american society. We believe that insane violent content and expression is something that belongs in games and
not on the streets. Sticking a gun up a cats ass to make it a silencer is no worse than urinating on yourself to prevent yourself from burning to death on fire. Content should be free and uncensored, its the context that is most important, if its in a game, then its a game!

Christian: The last big thing in the Running With Scissors- and Postal-History is the fact that you sell the game in collaboration with Softwrap. So the uncut Versions of POSTAL-Games will be avaiable everywhere, even there where the sun don´t shine. Do you expect hate-mails from god-believers or unemployed-wifes?

Vince: We are very fortunate in that most our email is very supportive, totally positive and motivating. We only desire to make people laugh and enjoy a little harmless fun. I´m sure the Postal Dude is a religous man and understands these matters, and I know he´s respectful of unemployed wives.

Christian: Tell me something about the advantages that accrued thrue the collaboration with Softwrap. Do you really think that the People all over the world will buy the game instead of downloading it? I know that this Question sounds weird but in fact, most people who are intrested in the game already own it - i guess. And tell me some reasons why they shall buy this game if they got a "copy" of it thrue shipping from foreign countries or downloading it.

Vince: I love when I get email from a fan who says ´I got to be honest, I´ve been playing POSTAL for over a year, and so I just want to pay for it, thanks for making a great game´...this happens all the time. Softwrap provides an excellent service for any developer who seeks online distribution. For us, with POST*L being blacklisted or censorsed in some form, its an excellent method, it allows less fortunate gamers to get their hands on it, who might not want to steal it from boards. Yeah there actually are people that pay for downloads. As for popularity, the POSTAL series is exploding, more than ever, people and I dont mean regular gamers are playing POSTAL.

Christian: Some of the Postal-Games are banned in New Zealand, Germany and other european Countries. I know that you hear this Question very often, but why do you think that they banned it?

Vince: Reality is hard to accept, and while these countries all act in a so called civilized manner and operate commercially for personal and corporate gain, it serves them well to be abel to have something to blame. America is slowly self destructing as it lets itself be ruined by selfish loathers who dont take responsibility or worse by others who let them get away with it, as long as they´re not the victims.

Christian: I read about Postal-Comics and CDs, can you say how the progress is? Maybe a date we can expect the worlds end? With the last Add-On the Story of Postal 2 is finished. Can you let the cat out of the bag and tell us some details about Postal 3?

Vince: 2006 is a big year for Running With Scissors, we still haven´t announced several projects yet we´re getting lots of questions. The Postal Comic is in the works, and the music cd will be open to auditions very soon. Apocalyspe Weekend was the last installment for POSTAL 2. As for letting the cats ass speak for itself, we are working very hard on POSTAL 3, we are taking great pain in the design phase to do all we can.

Christian: Which three things would you carry to a lonesome chairoplane?

Vince: Do you mean the only seat on a plane? Depends how big the plane, but I´d make sure I kept one hand free to grab my cock when the shit hits the fan. And a pad and a pen, I like writing.

Christian: Do you think that POST*L is the most brutal game ever and got the content to unsettle even Adults? The game got an ESRB-Rating of Mature (17+), what would you advise Children, that are not old enough for playing POST*L but want it more than anything else?

Vince: POST*L never was nor will be a brutal game. Its true we design it with many elements of ridiculous violence, but thats very different than other games, who offer repeatedly, boring, no meaning, killings. POST*L is a satire, not a Drama. We mostly use realistic objects, the humor comes from how we let the player use them. Any child who wants POST*L more than anything else, must have heard about it, or tried it at a friends, and will find a way to get their own copy. Most important, its a game, and its that simple, play it and have fun, then show your parents what a fantastic experience it is to go postal in a game.

Christian: What are your personal wishes for the year 2006?

Vince: Peace on earth...Iran is about to explode. Good health to all...every year we have a new disease. Great sex for everyone...just protect yourself!

Christian: Which character is the most impressive one in videogame-history, except The Postal Dude.

Vince: Mario.

Christian: Which persons you would like to implement in POST*L as an enemy. And which weapons or superforces would they get?

Vince: We´ve always concentrated on the conventional basic character types, save Gary Coleman. I think there is more opportunity and imagination when you are in a generic world, it leaves it up to you and doesnt really make it personal. Weapons of Imagination, WOI´s ,, anything goes, it doesnt have to be a weapon to be a weapon.

Christian: If you have to choose between playing Half-Life², Quake 4 or Mario Kart, which game would you choose? And tell me why.

Vince: HL2

Christian: So you know that I want to talk about the upcoming Postal: The Movie-Movie. You said in an interview with Gamecloud.com about Dr.Uwe Boll that "First he respects the property and wants to build on it, not change it. I really believe that POST*L is the best content for him to showcase his producing and directing talents." I saw nearly every Boll-Movie and have to say that his way to direct isn´t the way i -personally- want to see "Postal" directed. I would like to see Robert Rodriguez on the Directors Chair. Was Dr.Uwe Boll the first Director that came in your minds?

Vince: We were first approached a few years ago by Hollywood but I wasn´t impressed, they had no idea what POST*L was about, they only knew it was violent. For us its the humor that makes POST*L what it is, not just the violence. I never met Robert so I have no personal impression of him, but I loved El Mariachi. I did meet Quinten Tarrnentino, but he was too busy with himself. I made a point of getting to know Dr. Boll over time before we agreed to work on a POST*L movie. All the skill in the world delivers nothing without confidence. RWS is a confident team of talented individuals who respect the property and eachother.

Christian: Which Rating do you expect for the Movie? Most POSTAL-Fans want the total "overkill" of violence, do they get what they want? Will we see, the maincharacter peeing on a human body, kickin´ some priest-heads into a bunch of drugabusers and grabin´ a cat using it as a weapon-silencer? Or do we get a movie with Pulp-Fiction-Style, some dirty words, a littlebit violence and so on?

Vince: For theatres there will be a R version and for DVD we will make an un-rated version. We´re making this movie for our fans so it will be totally over the top, insane violence with laughter and sex. It will be orgasmic. I really liked Pulp Fiction, but I prefer my action to be more direct, less convoluted, more relentless, not as justifying.

Christian: Will there be another game than the POSTAL-Stuff? Kinda racing game or a non-violence riding-school-simulator?

Vince: We´ve made many games over the years, some which we´ve received many awards for educational excellence. Right now we´re having alot more fun counting bodies than numbers.

Christian: So in the end, my last question for today... I think that the following question is asked a few hundred times but ... i´ll ask it again. Your childhood, was it soooooo bad, that you have to develop and support this kind of games? ;)

Vince: I was blessed with great parents, 12 years of catholic school, and the best friends....I feel lucky, real lucky.

Christian: Thanks for the interview and good luck fort he future.

Vince: Thanks to you and I just want to say hi to all our fans, and enemies, we wish you all a great 2006.

Vielleicht hat Running with Scissors uns aufgekauft ... Sven sag doch etwas ...
